Meet Demi
Introducing Demi Hutchison, a 17-year-old Musical Theatre student at CAPA College, who recently joined our filming cast on The Void.
Can you tell us a bit about the day you spent filming for The Void - what was it like stepping into the role of Ru?
Spending the day filming for The Void was such an incredible experience, it was completely different to any type of work i had done previously so it was nice to be pushed out of my comfort zone. I really had to embody the role of Ru and understand her story and relationships in order to tell the story through her movements rather than words and it was so so fun to do!
Was this your first time working with a green screen? How did you find the experience?
In the past I have worked with Green screens but not to a professional level like this. Acting for camera and green screen work is something I’ve always wanted to become more experienced with and I really feel I did in this project. It was so amazing to see how what we filmed was transformed into the final product on stage, it was like magic !!
What was the most exciting part of the filming?
Something I really enjoyed about this project was experimenting, I loved the process of trial and error when rehearsing the movements and considering what would look best on screen to clearly communicate what was happening to the audience. I learnt so much and thought about aspects of that I haven’t before. Getting into costume was SO exciting really getting the feel of the character and bringing it to life !!!
Did this experience change how you think about acting or theatre in any way?
As a result of this experience, it’s really opened my eyes to the world of acting for camera and how much I do truly enjoy it. Before this it was something quite unfamiliar to me that I wanted to explore more and have found a passion for now. I now see myself as more of a versatile actor feeling confident in different mediums of acting and it’s a huge thanks to the Thunder Road team.
“Working with the Thunder Road team on The Void was such an inspirational experience. I felt I was in a safe space to make mistakes, learn new things and really explore my creativity. Everyone who I worked with on the process were so inspiring, I felt we really worked well together bouncing off of eachother’s energy and work ethic.”
