The Bogeyman is a brand-new folk horror story inspired by the works of Stephen King, exploring the myths and superstitions surrounding the urban legend that has haunted children and adults for centuries. Keep telling yourself it isn’t real…nobody can escape the bogeyman.

  • Made in Bristol

    Thunder Road would love to work closely with the Tobacco Factory on this project. Developing the show with its creative team and a number of creative artists (employed) from the local area. A small number of exclusive test performances would be available to gather community feedback before its opening night and a nationwide tour (150-300 seater venues).

  • Folk Horror

    The show is inspired by elements of folk horror within the work of Stephen King. Set in rural England - a devil-like figure haunts a father and his children in the dead of night. The play will bring the mounting sense of dread up close for audiences, inspired by the Tobacco Factory’s unique theatre space - a terrifying new immersive horror experience.

  • Creative Team

    In additional to local talent, Thunder Road will bring its exceptional creative team of specialists on board for the project. Including an Emmy-Award nominated composer, an associate director of the RSC, a BBC screenwriter and Netflix prosthetics artist.

  • UK-wide Tour

    The show is available to premier and tour from 9 September - 3 October 2026 to venues (max seating capacity 300), and will tour again in 2027 & 2028. The aim is to make the project sustainable and commercially successful as we have done before, visiting venues in all corners of the UK.

  • Target Audiences

    In addition to adults, horror fans & thrill seekers, our company continues to develop it’s relationship with teenagers and young adults. We would love to bring more young people (aged 14+) into the Tobacco Factory with The Bogeyman. Our free horror workshops are available in wrap-around, with opportunities to involve them in the development of the show, subject to the venue’s approval.
